African American Female Voice Actor
If you had asked me when I was a kid, if I would have had a career using my voice, I wouldn’t have come close to believing you.
My road to voice actor has been a long, winding one. A shy, Washington, DC native who moved to the Maryland suburbs as a teen, I took to music and started to come out of my shell. I learned to play the clarinet, bass clarinet and French Horn and was a Drum Major in my HS marching band. College took me to Florida A&M University and then the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where I majored in Computer Science.
After graduating, I settled into the web development field where I worked for such prestigious companies as IBM, National Geographic, and Georgetown University Law Center. During my time at Georgetown, I created and taught technical training programs to departmental web editors.
In 2018, I started a podcast, BlerdMom, for my co-host and I to discuss nerdy topics – movies, games, cosplaying and more. Listeners often comment on my voice – remarking that they could listen to me forever. At a podcast conference, I attended a session with a voice actor that spurred me to investigate the field further and then work with a voiceover coach.
Voice acting allows me to bring my voice together with a love of knowledge to breathe life and enthusiasm into projects. I particularly enjoy documentary narration, corporate and e-learning projects, audio description, and commercial work.
My podcast, BlerdMom, can be found on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcast, and Spotify.
